Conditional 3

Word order: if + Past Perfect, Hauptsatz mit Conditional II

Example: If I had found her address, I would have sent her an invitation.

If the main proposition is in the beginning of the sentence, then the comma disapears.

Example: I would have sent her an invitation if I had found her address.

The conditional sentence can also stand in the negative form.

Example: If I hadn’t studied, I wouldn’t have passed my exams.

Use:You need this time, when you will say something about the past. The conditional 3 will be used, when a thing is unpossible because of the condition.

Conditional sentences type 1 refers to the present or the future.

They tell what happens or does not happen under certain conditions.

If Nick is quiet, Mrs Tschäbunin won’t give him extra work.(Wenn Nick still ist, gibt Mrs Tschäbunin ihm keine Extraaufgaben.)
(Wenn Nick still ist, wird Mrs Tschäbunin ihm keine Extraaufgaben geben.)

Structure: If+ Subject+ Form of “to be”, Subject+ will (not)+ Infinitive+ Object
